Say Goodbye to Crow's Feet With Botox or Dysport

At Her Secret MedSpa, our expert staff offers several services that can effectively erase unwanted lines and wrinkles. If you’re beginning to see signs of aging that make you unhappy — such as crow’s feet — book an appointment and let us suggest treatments that can help turn back the hands of time.

Injectables are among the most popular cosmetic treatments in the world. In this post, we discuss two of them, Botox® and Dysport® and how they can help get rid of crow’s feet.

The cause of crow’s feet

The skin around your eyes is about 40% thinner than the skin on the rest of your face. It’s delicate! Along with that fact, the skin around your eyes moves a lot when you make facial expressions or squint. And did you know that you blink about 20,000 times a day? That’s a lot of muscle movement.

As you age, your body produces less collagen, and your skin becomes less elastic. The combination of thinner skin, changes due to aging, and repeated movement produces the lines that resemble bird tracks at the outer corners of your eyes.

How Botox and Dysport help

Both Botox and Dysport are types of neurotoxins, which sounds scary at first. However, Botox has been in use for decades — it’s been the most-performed cosmetic procedure in the world for several years and is considered very safe. Dysport, too, has been widely used and has a similar safety profile.

Both injections work by blocking the nerve signals to the muscles under your skin — it’s the muscle contractions that cause your skin to wrinkle over time, leading to crow’s feet, frown lines, and more. However, getting these treatments doesn’t mean that your face is paralyzed, just that the wrinkle-causing muscle relaxes while the injection is working.

When those 20,000 daily blinks aren’t causing your skin to move as much, the wrinkles around your eyes smooth out and also don’t get deeper while the neurotoxin is active. Yet you still have a lovely, expressive face.

You see results in about two weeks. Botox usually lasts around three months, though it can be a shorter period. Dysport may last slightly longer, but results do vary. You’re an individual, and your results won’t be the same as someone else’s. If you continue to get injections, the effect may last longer between injections over time.

Skill matters

The most important factor in having a good experience with any injectable is your provider. Negative side effects reported from Botox or Dysport often occur because the provider uses too much or doesn’t get the medication precisely where it can do the most good. The skilled, knowledgeable team at Her Secret MedSpa can help you decide which injectable is likely to work best for you and expertly places the injection exactly where it needs to go.
