Chemical Peels Q & A
What are chemical peels?
Chemical peels are a great and effective way to address a variety of skin conditions and get smoother, younger-looking glowing skin.
The expert aestheticians at Her Secret MedSpa recognize that each person’s complexion requires a customized treatment plan; therefore, they offer a full menu of chemical peels under the supervision of Medical Director Eyad M. Hijazin, MD, to ensure you achieve the optimum results from your chemical peel.
What skin problems can chemical peels treat?
Chemical peels are effective in treating a range of common skin problems and blemishes, including:
- Acne
- Hyperpigmentation
- Enlarged pores
- Dull or rough texture
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Sun damage
Chemical peels are excellent for enhancing skin tone and texture, and many clients find they achieve even better results when they combine chemical peels with a series of photofacial treatments.
How do chemical peels work?
Chemical peels work by exfoliating your skin to uncover the fresh, healthy skin underneath. Your aesthetician at Her Secret MedSpa prepares a solution that combines exactly the right products to act on the types of skin blemishes you have, then applies it to your skin.
Once it’s been on long enough to have the desired effect, your aesthetician removes the chemical peel, and the top layer of your skin starts to dry up. As the surface skin dries, it starts to peel off, and when the peeling process is complete, it reveals your fresh new skin.
There are different strengths of chemical peel available to suit clients’ specific needs. Some chemical peels are milder, and best suited to imperfections such as skin discoloration. Other peels are more intense and better for problems such as fine lines and wrinkles.
Improvement starts straight away, but after three or more peels, you should see a significant difference.
Does having a chemical peel hurt?
Chemical peels do have a dramatic effect on the skin that may cause some discomfort. Clients are likely to notice a burning feeling as the chemical peel takes effect, followed by stinging sensations.
After your chemical peel, your skin may swell a little, feel hot, and look red. Deeper peels can also cause blistering. Cold compresses can help ease any discomfort, and you can take over-the-counter pain relieving medications if you feel uncomfortable. You may need to wear bandages after some chemical peels, and you should stay out of the sun to avoid damaging the skin as it heals.
These side effects are a normal response to the ingredients in the chemical peel and soon subside. As the skin begins to heal, the surface of your face can become scaly with dead skin, which then falls off to uncover the fresh, younger-looking skin underneath.
